After years of irregular periods and other symptoms, I have finally been diagnosed with PCOS. The scary part is that 40% of women with PCOS will have type II diabetes by the age of 40. The bigger picture starts to come into view. Maybe this is the gift of my infertility, to understand the risks of my lack of insulin sensitivity and do something about it before diabetes is the conclusion. I am hoping it is not too late, and that my insulin levels are still in the prediabetes stage. I guess with PCOS I am at increased risk of cardiovascular issues and hypertension.
My local OBGYN has done as much as they can do so I am seeing a specialist at Baystate in Springfield. It looks promising. I will keep all of my loyal readers up-to-date on that.
